For me, hair is a very important part of my appearance. I love feeling like I’ve got nice thick and healthy hair, which enables me to style it in different ways. This is why I take haircare to the extreme and ensure I’m always looking after my locks.
Speaking of which, did you know there are loads of things you could be doing that are damaging your hair? The worst thing is, you don’t even realize you’re hurting it! My hope is that, by showing you the bad habits you might be following, you will learn to stop doing them and keep your hair healthier.
Brushing Wet Hair Incorrectly
Believe it or not but there’s actually a right and wrong way to brush wet hair. When you step out of the shower, it’s natural to brush and comb your hair the same way as usual; from top to bottom. Unfortunately, this is the wrong way to do it. When your hair is wet, it’s weaker. Brushing in this direction will lengthen those strands to the point of breakage. Before you know it, you’re ripping out and damaging loads of hair. Instead, brush from bottom to top when your hair is wet. It’ll feel weird, but your hair will thank you.
Using The Wrong Shampoo
We all know that choosing shampoo is fairly difficult as there’s so much choice out there. However, certain shampoos are really bad for your hair. Any shampoo that contains sulfates is harmful to your follicles. Sulfates can dry out your hair, get rid of the essential oils, and cause problems with your scalp. Luckily, there are articles on sites like soundbodylife.com that point you in the direction of sulfate-free shampoos. Along with this, you should avoid using dry shampoo. While it may be practical, it will damage your hair with repetitive use. Stick to the normal stuff as your hair needs moisture to stay healthy.
Not Cleaning Your Brushes
Be honest, how many of you actually clean your hairbrush or comb? It’s okay to admit it, I know you don’t do it regularly! It’s not something we tend to think about because we’re the only person using our brushes, so, what’s the problem? Obviously, they get dirty over time, even if we’re the only person using them. As such, you’re pretty much brushing your hair with a dirty brush, which is not good for its health. Clean every comb or brush as soon as you finish using it, this ensures your hair stays healthy for longer.
Using Too Many Styling Products
Hairspray and styling products may make your hair look nice, but they’re not good for it at all. They often contain lots of harmful chemicals that beat up our hair and leave it feeling very damaged. I recently read an article on livestrong.com that spoke about the dangers of hairspray in more detail. Here’s the thing, if you stop using styling products, and take care of your hair naturally, it’ll look even better.
Are you doing any of these things? If so, correct your mistakes and ensure you look after your hair to keep it thick, healthy, and gorgeous!
