As much as we like to think of the summer as a season for fun, it’s also a great time of year to knock out a few of the less pleasant things on your schedule. The days are longer and people tend to be a little more relaxed, and that means you might just be able to find a little bit of extra time to take care of some obligations.
With that in mind, here are some ideas for regular appointments to knock off your list this summer, even if you’re not looking forward to them.
Go See The Dentist
We don’t have the statistics on it, but this has to be one of the regular appointments that is put off most frequently. Most of us feel that as long as we brush and floss regularly the dentist isn’t entirely necessary on an annual basis. But regular cleanings are still best for your health, and if you have any specific issues they should be dealt with immediately before they get worse. For that matter, if you have a family dentist, you might want to go ahead and schedule appointments for the whole gang. It’s best to get them over with.
Get Your Annual Physical
This is another basic medical checkup that is often delayed for no good reason other than that things are busy. And as with dental care, it’s easy to tell yourself it’s unnecessary if you’re staying healthy. But a regular physical is about more than making sure you’re maintaining your weight. It’s about monitoring your heart, checking your blood pressure and sugar, and making sure there aren’t any little things wrong that a doctor might notice before you do. It’s routine, but you should still put it on your summer list.
Take Care Of Nagging Issues
If there’s something that’s been bothering you physically but you’ve been delaying checking it out, go ahead and get it done this summer. It might mean seeing a podiatrist for a foot or ankle problem, or a chiropractor for back issues – or it could even mean something that’s as relaxing as it is medicinal. For example, if you’ve had neck or back pain, or even a lingering feeling of stress you can’t get rid of, a massage or two might be the answer.
Have The AC Checked
It’s never pleasant to have your heating or air conditioning systems checked, because if something is wrong it can be very expensive. Particularly if you live in a medium or large home, a new unit can cost you several thousand dollars. At the same time, however, it makes sense to get these systems checked when they’re working hardest. The height of summer makes your air conditioning unit work hard, so now is the time to have a professional out for a service checkup to make sure everything’s running smoothly.
Service Your Car
You may have a regular service appointment set for your car, either at an auto parts shop or at your own car dealership. And sometimes it’s fine to just wait for the scheduled appointment, particularly if nothing is wrong. However, there’s also something to be said for just getting it over with for the year. If you’re knocking things off your list anyway, a car service is a nice, final appointment to cross off your list.
