Matt Green founded BladeButter a few years ago when he ran out of his favorite shaving gel and was not excited about the prospects of a soap-and-water shave. He remembered he had some highly filtered natural oils leftover from solving a clients sticky protein bar problem. So he thought he would dip his razor in it to soften the blow.’ To his amazement, he ended up enjoying one of the cleanest, closest shaves of his life. BladeButter likes to say they deliver better shaves, is this really the case?
I received several products across a couple of shipments from BladeButter. The first included the items you see above, the Razor Booster, Shave Jelly and DragonsEdge Pink Razor. There are a lot of shaving products on the market and many, many brands have been making them for decades. One of the more recent fads has been those shave clubs, sign up and receive blades once a month or however often you decide. In many cases they can save you money, but from our experience they did not offer an equal shave to the more expensive competitors. BladeButter does not have any contracts so that is a plus, just order what you want with honest, upfront pricing. My usual razor is one from Gillette, the Venus and because of its built in moisturizer that lathers when wet I have no need for a shaving cream. I tried out the DragonsEdge Pink Razor with the Shave Jelly, which I just did not like. I was not a fan of the slimy feeling of the shave jelly and even with regular shaving cream I just did not like the feel of the razor on my skin. The DragonsEdge Razor features zero friction fins and a medicating strip, but they just did not seem to help the razor glide or maybe I am just spoiled from my old razor.
So my husband tried the other two products, the Shave Jelly and Razor Booster on his usual razor while he waited for his DragonsEdge 6x Razor to arrive. The idea behind the Razor Booster is:
- Penetrates The Metal Of Your Blades Protecting Them From The Inside Out.
- Virtually Eliminates Friction & Oxidation That Causes Blades To Wear Out Prematurely.
- Delivers Proven Skin Repairing Ingredients Like Green Tea, Vitamin E & Antioxidants.
- Contains Ingredients That Sanitize Your Blades Naturally.
- Protects Against Nicks, Cuts, Scrapes & Razor Bumps.
The biggest problem my husband had with the Razor Booster is how messy it is. You dip the razor in it and it is just dripping off of the razor all over the place. Pair that with the Shave Jelly which is more liquefied than a foaming shaving cream you just have stuff slinging all over the place so he was not able to use the Razor Booster enough times to see if it would actually extend the life of his razor. Next on to the Shave Jelly. My husband began using it with a brand new Mach 3 blade, his usual razor. The first time he used it, it was great other than the mess. He says the razor glided across his skin with ease and he loved how it left his skin feeling soft and smooth afterwards, no additional shaving lotion required. After he had been using the Mach 3 with the Shave Jelly for a few days the comfort strips on the blade began to wear off and the Shave Jelly no longer helped the blade glide across the skin and he felt as though the razor was scratching his face.
We received the DragonsEdge 6x Razor and started the experiment all over again, except with out the Razor Booster because he just could not stand to use it. Chris found that the new razor was uncomfortable from day one when used with the Shave Jelly, but when used with his traditional shaving cream there were no issues. Chris found that the razor offered a good shave, but after only 8 days the razor started to become dull and become unusable. A Mach 3 blade normally lasts Chris around 2 weeks before it needs replaced so let’s look at the cost and see if BladeButter wins there. A 4 count refill pack from BladeButter is $9 plus $3.77 shipping for a total of $12.77. A 4 count refill pack of Mach 3 blades from Amazon is $9.95 plus free Prime Shipping so the total is $9.95. So for us, the Mach 3 blades last about twice as long and are cheaper so for us we would be sacrificing quality and also paying more for it so the razors just do not make sense to us.
As I said previously there are a lot of new shave products and brands coming on the market, but are they really solving a problem? If traditional shaving creams or shaving gels work fine then do we really need Shave Jelly and Blade Boosters that just further complicate the process. People have been shaving since as early as 500 B.C. using pumice stones and a primitive version of the razor, since then how we shave has evolved greatly , but if you are going to introduce a new product to the market to mix things up it is going to have to work really well and I am not sure this is the case with these products. If it is not broke, why fix it? Of course this is just our opinion and we all know what they say about opinions. Try these products for yourself and your mileage may vary, maybe these products will revolutionize the way you or a loved one shave. All of these products can be purchased directly from BladeButter.com and be sure to show them some love on facebook, twitter, Pinterest & Instagram.
