We currently have six rescued furbabies. Three Treeing Walker Coonhounds that came from high-kill shelters in NC and SC, and three cats – one who was adopted from a rescue just outside of Indianapolis and the other two found as strays. The most recent addition is Kotoha, who was just two weeks old when I found her and bottle fed her until she was ready for solid food. She’s been here for 9 weeks today and has grown so much!

I have a beautiful cat named Zelda. We used to have a dog named Murphy who was a pretty labrador retriever but Murphy did not like our two year old. We tried our best to get them to get along but unfortunately we were unable! Murphy had to be rehomed with a couple that did not have children after he bit our two year old on her face. We had to have the left side of her face reconstructed via plastic surgeon to try and fix the damage. Zelda we found while we were at Petco one day donating what was left of Murphy’s dog food. Zelda had been at that Petco for three months! That was no bueno. She’s an old baby but she still needs love! We adopted her immediately and she’s been in the family for a year and a half now. Perfect fit! We don’t necessarily hope for more animals but Zelda is a wonderful kitty with a great personality and she gets along with strangers quite nicely.

I had a dog by default. He was technically a neighbor’s dog but they were not the best caretakers. He was a house dog but they would leave him outside quite a bit. Slowly but surely he became part of my family. I will never forget, when I got sick he would stay with me. On my good days we would walk outside but on my bad days I would lay on the couch and he would lay on the floor right next to me. When I had surgery and was in the hospital, my family told me that he kept going from my car to the door looking for me. When I finally came home, I think he was more excited than my family was. I was super happy to see him too. A little while later my neighbor’s moved out of state and took him with them. It was a really sad time. I loved that little Peke and miss him still.
