Many would agree with the popular phrase and agree that their home is their castle. As the New Year is now upon us, it’s important to take stock of the goals you set, but one goal that is often overlooked is that of having a beautiful home. The New Year brings with it, at least for many of us, somewhat of a financial hangover, but now is a great time to snap up bargains in terms of acquiring new furniture for your home.
Often, the thing that can prove to be prohibitively expensive in terms of acquiring new furniture, particularly with the large items, is that of delivery and transporting the goods, which is where sites like Shiply, that is a comparison website of delivery quotes, comes in to play. Whilst, if you’re buying new, there’s always a deal to be had in terms of getting free delivery as part of the purchase – but when it comes to second hand furniture the burden is often on you to pick it up and transport it.
This article explores four of the most popular interior design trends we can expect to see in 2018.
- GALLERY STYLE WALLS
Think of an understated minimalist art gallery, with white washed walls, and one prominent (usually quite large) piece of art hung in the centre of the wall. Now, compare this to the cluttered curation of most homes that are way too busy and chaotic to feel the serenity one wishes to feel upon entering an art gallery. Essentially, the trend is to declutter your walls and have one prominent piece of art in order to make one bold and congruent statement.
- HERRINGBONE PARQUET FLOOR
Many people are desperate for herringbone parquet flooring, as they consider it to be utterly gorgeous, plus unlike dark wood flooring that shows up every single piece of fluff (particularly annoying if you have malting pets) it’s almost impossible to keep looking clean; meaning it isn’t such a great option for a kitchen makeover.
White floorboards are starting to go out of fashion, mostly due to popularity weaning as a result of how hard it is to keep them looking pristine. Herringbone parquet flooring, on the other hand, offers a natural wood finish with the benefit of adding a pattern to the floor; but most of all, this is a classic look that never really dates.
- BIG BRIGHT RUGS
Natural fibre rugs and solid color statement pieces are classics, but a trend we’ve seen this year is for interior professionals to liven up a space with rich, saturated colours, that are either positioned on the floor or even hung on the wall.
- ANIMAL SKINS
Whilst not everyone’s cup of tea, and certainly with a plethora of ethical considerations, real and faux leather hides are being used to add texture and depth to the room. In particular, the trend is leaning toward deer hide, water buffalo and even crocodile. Whilst this decor won’t be to everyone’s taste, if this is up your street, it’s likely to remain a consistent choice irrespective of passing fads.
Hopefully, these trends have offered some inspiration in terms of what we have seen coming up in the past year, and those that will expand into the next. The best advice, when it comes to offering a golden rule for selecting furniture, is to pick items you love and not worry so much about trends and curation… go with your heart, and make sure that every piece of furniture in your home, is one that you personally love.
