During the week, we go to work and give it our all. We go to the gym and we eat right (within reason) and just generally to be responsible adults. The weekends are different. The weekends are a time to kick back and relax with a few friends and maybe a few beers. It’s a time to forget about all those adult responsibilities and feel like a kid again. One way to do that is to have a big party that you never could have as a kid. If you have children of your own, you can even let them join in the fun. It’s always nice to revisit your childhood while helping your own children create lasting memories.
Target demographic
First of all, decide if the party is more for adults or children. That doesn’t necessarily mean both adults and children can’t have fun at the party, but which demographic do you want to focus more on when you’re planning things? If it’s an adults-only party, you can drink a lot and play risqué party games. If it’s focused more on kids, keep the alcohol to a minimum and stick to playing games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Once you’ve got that figured out, decide if you want a theme. It can be something basic like “sports” or something more complicated like a Great Gatsby costume party. Think about what you’re asking of attendees if you throw a specific theme party, too. For some people, it’s fun to dress up as an astronaut or a spy or a flapper. Other people will just want to show up in jeans and a T-shirt to hang out with their friends.
What to get
Once you’ve decided exactly what kind of party you want to have, then the hard work really begins in earnest. Most people will need to call a rental company and purchase a few items to really make the party memorable. It might be a karaoke machine so all your friends can sing along to everything from Taylor Swift to Journey. It might be a snow cone machine if you’re having a party in the middle of a summer heat wave. Don’t feel like your party needs to resemble a busy carnival. Focus on one or two key attractions that will really draw people in. Maybe you’ve always wanted to jump around in a bounce house. If so, now’s the time to do it. Haven’t played in a ball pit since elementary school? Start doing some research and finding out how feasible it would be to create a ball pit in your home or backyard. You’ll want to find out things like how many balls for a ball pit and how to keep people safe when they’re playing in a ball pit. Balls for such a bit often come in bundles of 100, so it’s up to you to decide how many of those bundles you’ll need. Oftentimes the size of the ball pit depends on the size of the people playing in it. Young children can usually get by with a smaller pit, but if you want to invite a bunch of college students over, the space for the pit will need to be bigger!
