We went to a sneak peek of this movie last week and it was absolutely amazing! The Finest Hours is based on a true story about a Coast Guard rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod during a blizzard in 1952.
“In February of 1952, one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast struck New England, damaging an oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod and literally ripping it in half. On a small lifeboat faced with frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves, four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the rapidly-sinking vessel.”

The movie wastes no time getting right into the middle of the action, within minutes we know that there are two tanker ships stranded at sea. We were able to view this movie in Real 3D which wearing the glasses can sometimes take away from the experience, but that is definitely not the case. This movie is so immersive and the 3D aspect of it just pulls you in even more. As you can see in the pic above the boat that the guys from the Coast Guard were sent out in was a very small boat and was only meant to hold 12 people, there were over 30 stranded on the tanker, the men barely had an umbrella over their heads in frigid temperatures and crashing seas. We loved every aspect of this movie and it was great for the whole family, although they could have left a few expletives out that would not have taken away from the movie and would have allowed the movie to be rated PG instead of PG-13.
