Like most moms I am a huge fan of my slow cooker. Nothing like being able to set it and forget, come back later and dinner is ready to go. My slow cooker that I have had for the last few years was just a simple one with low and high and a couple of time settings for each. As much as I love my slow cooker I have also been wanting to try pressure cooking for a long time, but just never got around to purchasing one. I watch Iron Chef America and see these chefs with an hour time limit throw these meats that take a long time to cook or are really tough unless they are cooked slow and low and I see them throw them in the pressure cooker and 30 minutes later they come out looking like they were roasted in the oven for hours, that is just awesome. So I was looking around the internet earlier this year at some of the latest cooking gadgets and I stumbled across the website for Fagor America and was blown away by their professional cookware, small appliances and their larger ones, refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers etc.
So I am browsing their site wishing I could go on a shopping spree and replace every appliance in my kitchen when I came across the 3-in-1 Electric Multi-Cooker. This small appliance is the best friend of those busy Moms who want to cook great meals for their family, but finds themselves short on time. It is a slow cooker, pressure cooker and rice cooker all in one beautifully designed package that does not take up near the room that my old slow cooker did. Now this magical 3-in-1 Multi Cooker does not just slow cook, pressure cook and steam some rice, it has a few other tricks up its sleeve. One thing I really, really missed about my slow cooker and told my husband about it all the time was a cook delay function. Maybe I am cooking something that only takes 4 hours, but I won’t be home after lunch to start it. Now I can get everything in the multi cooker, set a delayed start time, specify whether I want to cook on high or low and for how long and I can run out the door. When I arrive home I find my meal perfectly cooked and being kept warm. Another awesome feature about this is the sear feature. When slow cooking a lot of time you may be required to sear your protein in a skillet and then move it to the slow cooker, not anymore. Press the sear button on the multi cooker and this thing heats up in no time, sear your meats on all sides and then in the same pan turn on the pressure cooker or slow cooker function and let it go, less cleanup and oh so much easier.
So now for the pressure cooking, when we received this my husband and I both were excited to try this thing out and see what it could do. We have a local produce market, that also has a hot and cold deli and they have the best chicken salad in the world and we have been wanting to try to duplicate it for forever, but we keep forgetting to thaw some chicken to cook for chicken salad. We grabbed 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts from the freezer and threw them in the pressure cooker. The book that comes with the multi cooker gives you some good estimates of cooking times and Google can also be your friend in researching this. Anyways we cooked those 6 chicken breasts that were froze solid in 30 minutes! The microwave could not defrost them in 30 minutes and if it did they would come out looking like some nasty, rubber chicken. Our chicken came out perfectly cooked, so juicy, we just took our silicone BBQ gloves and pulled it apart, I was sold on pressure cooking and it was so easy to use. At one time pressure cooking was a little bit dangerous, but not with this one. The lid is locked and will not open when there is pressure inside and it has two independent pressure control valves and anti-overheating protection for added security.
Since then we have made pork roasts in the pressure cooker, some awesome chili and slow cooker chicken Parmesan in the slow cooker and I could not be happier with the performance of this product. The cooking vessel is non-stick, dishwasher safe, but we find it so easy to just hand wash it in the sink when when we are done. If you love to cook or know someone who does this would make the perfect gift this holiday season (and I won’t tell if you gift one to yourself). Head over to FagorAmerica.com today and check out all they have to offer. All of their products can be purchased through their online store, Amazon or find a store near you here.
