Ergo Chef was founded by Scott Staib way back in 2002 when Scott who was working as a chef found himself suffering from tendinitis and carpal tunnel syndrome due to the frequent chopping and slicing. Scott set out to design a knife that was ergonomic and could be used for hours on end by chefs with no pain or discomfort. Over the years Ergo Chef has evolved to offer more products that help us out in the kitchen and the My Air Fryer is one of those. Air Frying is kind of a big thing with a lot of people trying to cut back on those fried fatty foods. Our family is looking to eat healthier any way we can and wholeheartedly embrace change and better ways of eating, but does it taste close enough to win the family over?
The Ergo Chef My Air Fryer, is pretty good in size and feels really well made. The display is easy on the eyes and easy to understand after taking a look at the manual to know what each button does. It has a few “presets”, across the top you can see some icons for French Fries, Chicken, etc. As you select each icon it will set the fryer and cook time to the predefined settings of the preset and of course you can also do your own custom settings.
Some accessories included are the pizza pan and grill rack.
Here you can see the first recipe we tried. I should mention that although this air fryer is large, has a capacity of 5.8 quarts, that is volume, the surface area to place chicken tenders in for example is quite small. I could only fit 8 chicken tenders so this means having to cook in multiple batches. We have a fried chicken recipe we love, I looked over the recipe provided by Ergo Chef for their fried chicken and the ingredients were similar, ours just had some added seasoning and preparation was similar as well. The big difference with air frying is instead of submerging the food in oil, you just spray it with cooking spray which we did. As you can see the chicken did brown some, but does not look nearly as appetizing as they do when they come out of a traditional fryer. So how was the actual chicken? It ended up being pretty dry because I found myself cooking it longer and longer trying to get it to brown. The crust was just okay, you can see those dark looking balls, which I assume are balls of flour that just got overcooked, not real appetizing.
Our next test was some crinkly cut french fries and they turned out very well. As you can see they come out golden brown, had a decent crunch. Were these as good as fries from our favorite restaurant? The answer is no, but we did think they were better than just being baked in the oven.
So the question is did this Air Fryer convince us to give up traditional fried foods? The answer is yes and no. French Fries or Tater Tots are ideal for this appliance, but then you have to think, do I want another, rather large appliance sitting around taking up space just to cook some french fries? The chicken just did not come out very well. I think at some point we will try the recipe for Fried Chicken provided by Ergo Chef just to see how it goes. So if you are looking for an air fryer, the Ergo Chef My Air Fryer may be for you. You can pick one up from their website as well as Amazon and it ships free if you are a Prime Member.

So many uses for this oil free air fryer, I can think of so many dishes I could make with one of these.
