bObsweep began years ago with a mission to provide high-quality and environmentally-friendly products that make our everyday lives easier. Over the years “Bob” has evolved into an all inclusive floor cleaning appliance that can help those of us who would rather not spend all of our time cleaning the floors. We love our dog Xena, she is 80 some odd pounds of squishy, cuddly pup, but she like may dogs have one design fault, her hair and the fact that it blankets the house constantly. Xena is not the only one to blame, our Mocha Kitty has her fair share of furballs scattered around the house as well. We just built a new house and moved in a few months ago, we chose a hardwood floor that we hoped would not show the pet hair too badly, but whether or not you can see it, it is there. Since moving in I have found myself constantly sweeping, vacuuming, dust mopping, but hey I am a homeschooling Mom of 3 and I would much rather spend my time doing something else. We received our bObsweep PetHair Robotic Vacuum and Mop a couple of weeks ago and boy has it changed my life. They say a dog is man’s best friend, well a “Bob” is this Mom’s best friend.
When we received our bObsweep we were so excited to open it and let this thing go at it! I must confess we have had another robotic vacuum. It is not from the big robotic vacuum brand that you may be thinking of, but it was made by a company that has been making vacuums for over 100 years. Their product is fairly new to the market and leaves a lot to be desired. When it was moving and cleaning it was pretty good, but it spent much of its time trapped under or next to things and was quite the disappointment so we really had high hopes for “Bob”. Upon opening the package the first thing we noticed was just how well this package was designed. Not only is the Rouge color gorgeous, but bObsweep thought of everything. There are removable side brushes and the package included a screwdriver to install those, plus spare side brushes, pads to put on Bob’s bumper so he does not mark furniture that he runs into, HEPA filters, microfber cloths and more.
We looked through the manual and checked out some videos online to get comfortable with Bob’s features. Features such as edge and stair detectors mean no invisible walls, which are not really invisible, Bob, just knows not to jump off the cliff. A large dustbin, in fact the largest in the industry so I am not having to empty it every day. The charging station is Bob’s home, where he goes to get gassed up for the next round. Setting up Bob was really easy, first we set the date and time and then we set the schedules. Scheduling options are great, just pick certain days of the week, everyday of the week or you can just tell Bob to clean when you want via the buttons on top or the cool remote control. One feature that bObsweep has that the others do not is you can tell it that once it returns home and charges, to deploy again and he will keep cleaning then charging, then cleaning and goes on and on. Bob is full of choices, when it comes to cleaning modes, you can choose spot, wall follow, zigzag or just use auto like we do. Bob features dirt detection sensors so if it detects a particularly dirty area it will trigger his “spot cleaning” mode and will go over that spot over and over in round and zig zag motions ensuring that every bit of the dirt is removed.
Here you can see Bob in action and Mocha is supervising. Notice the digits on top, that is the number of minutes Bob has been out and about cleaning. We have seen Bob run for as long as 80 minutes, if he ventures into the bedrooms with the thick frize carpet his total run time is lower, usually right under a hour.
Mocha loves her little friend and it keeps Mommy from griping about her hairballs all over the floor.
Xena is pretty relaxed, I think of her being like Eeyore, she would look at Bob and sniff him, but for the most part just let him do his job.
So after having Bob for a couple of weeks, what do we think of him? I say that he is amazing and the husband and kids agree. I am not saying Bob is perfect, he does have a couple of quirks and we have just found out how to get around those. First of all the removable microfiber pad that can be used for mopping or dustmopping for us did make Bob get hung when going from hardwood to carpet so we removed it. If I want to mop the floors I just put the pad on it let it run that one time with it. On one occasion Bob got stuck under our bed and the spinning of the side brush got wound up in the tall frize carpet. I was able to untangle it and have had no more issues. Bob is very good about maneuvering around things. His bumper is very sensitive unlike our other robot so he normally knows when something is there and will maneuver himself around, our other vacuum would bang its head against the wall until it died because the bumper was not sensitive enough.
The go home function is not always 100%. Bob reserves the last 15% of his battery to start finding his way home. To find its way home Bob uses IR sensors mounted to the top of Bob and one mounted to the top of the charging station which work off line of sight. So if Bob is in our bedroom and needs to find his way home he has no chance of seeing the sensor on the charging station in the living room. He will try to find his way home, but it does not always work out. We have our Bob set to run at 3pm everyday and he stays downstairs which is right around 2300 sq. ft. of space and I would say he covers half of that area on one charge. I do find myself sending him out to work an additional one time on most days so he has a better chance of covering the whole house and since his battery charges so quickly this is no issue.
If you have been looking for vacuum cleaner reviews and thinking about a robotic vacuum, you seriously need to consider the bObsweep PetHair Robotic Vacuum and Mop, I believe it is the best robot vacuum out there. It is designed beautifully and functions so well. Bob has truly become a member of our family and we all call him by name. bObsweep products can be purchased from their online store and Amazon. I’ve read a billion reviews on this awesome robot vacuum cleaner. However, yours is by far the best! Seriously, I found myself laughing over some of the things you’ve said. I’m definitely considering purchasing him for my kitchen floor, which is always covered in dog and cat hair tumbleweeds.
