When I started homeschooling my children at the beginning of this school year, one of my biggest concerns was record keeping. I wanted to be sure that if the county or state ever had a question about my children’s attendance or grades that I would have the information readily available. I looked at different gradebooks and academic planners, but writing everything down just seemed like it would be overwhelming to me so of course I looked to the computer to make this task easier. I finally found one that looked like it would work well for me, but it has a whole lot of functions, so many that I would say it is probably overkill. I have been using it since the beginning of the school year and can just now confidently say I know my way around pretty well.
I was approached about giving myhomeschoolgrades.com (MHSG) a try and welcomed the opportunity. The first thing you will notice when you login to myhomesachoolgrades.com is how well it is laid out. Add a student, add their classes and you have the basic setup done. A couple of features that I noticed immediately that MHSG has that my other grading software was missing is the ability to specify credits earned per class, a real plus for my daughter that will be entering the high school level this year and the second feature is it has some curriculum built in that is able to auto populate lesson plans for. We use Teaching Textbooks for our Math for example, so I choose Teaching Textbooks as the curriculum, Math 5 or whichever one I am using and then go check out the lesson plan. It knows how many lessons there are and where the quiz will fall and has it planned out for you. Just change the date that you want each lesson to fall on and enter your grades when completed and you are done. You can even suggest curriculum to MHSG to be included to make your life easier.
Another awesome feature of MHSG is the documents section. MHSG knows I reside in TN, so all of the TN homeschool requirements and laws are automatically displayed for me, I cannot tell you how many times I have Googled for this to refer to and now it is right here in MHSG. Within the documents section we can also print out lesson plans, attendance reports plus you can track your children s immunizations in MHSG and print an immunization record when needed. Also included in documents are academic transcripts. The format of this document is great, laid out very easily to read showing graduation date, GPA and credits among other pertinent info for the student.
MHSG also has an activities calendar where we can track field trips, girl scout meetings, baseball games etc. Flip over to the calendar view and you can see activities, enter attendance and see each child’s attendance and daily lesson plan at a glance. MHSG will also work great across all devices, it has a responsive design so it will be displayed correctly on your PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone. If you are looking for that helping hand for tracking grading and attendance and just helping organize your homeschool life in general I highly recommend you check out myhomeschoolgrades.com . MHSG offers competitive pricing and you can enter to win a one year subscription to MHSG here and also be sure to show them some love on facebook and twitter.
