Winning Moves was founded in 1995 and is a leading maker of board games, card games, and puzzles. Winning Moves has formed a relationship with one of the largest game makers, Hasbro, Inc., owner of Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley. My husband and I both played Rook when we were younger, but it has been so long and our kids have never played so it was a great product to review from Winning Moves.
The ages on the Deluxe Rook Card Game are 7 and up, but it can be a little bit to get your mind wrapped around, especially for the younger players and even for myself because it had been so long since I played. There are many variations of Kentucky Rook with slight differences between each so we found it to be easiest to just pick the one that sounded the easiest for the number of players we had and just go with it and we played in teams which made it easier for the younger players. To sum it all up pretty quickly the players bid at the beginning of the hand to try to guess how many points they can have at the end of each round, points are earned by winning “tricks”. Players take turns around the table trying to play the same color suit of the card that was previously played. If the player has no card of the same color then they can play any card. The Rook card counts as a card of the trump color. When everyone has played a card, the trick is won by the player of the highest trump, or, if no trump was played, by the highest card of the color that was led. The winner of a trick leads to the next. The winner of the last trick takes the cards which the bidder discarded into the nest.
The Deluxe Rook Card Game comes with 57 Premium-Quality cards, 28 page rules booklet and score pad.

We love playing winning moves games. Trouble is a favorite but I have never played Rook so we will have to look for that one. It would make a great stocking stuffer for the kids.
