We love our Amazon Prime Membership, I just cannot say enough good things about it and Amazon just keeps on adding features to make it even better. We originally became Prime Members several years ago to take advantage of the free 2 day shipping which we use all year long and with the holidays right around the corner we will have packages delivered daily. We recently cut the cord on Satellite and use Amazon Instant Video to fill a lot of that gap and it being included in Prime is great. We can watch TV shows and movies on our Android phones, iPod’s, Kindle Fire, Roku box and Smart TV’s. A newer feature of our Amazon Prime Membership is unlimited cloud storage using Amazon Cloud Drive for photos.
Today everyone in our home has some kind of device that is capable of taking pictures so we accumulate a lot of pictures and we store them locally on on our computers. A couple of years back we even scanned all of our printed photos so that they are available digitally because you just never know what will happen to printed photos. Just like everything else computers can break, a hard drive could die and our pictures would be gone. What if we had a burglary and they stole our computers or even a house fire, all of these memories would be lost, but we do not have to worry since all of our photos are backed up safely to our Amazon Cloud Drive. Photos are not the only files that can be safely and securely backed up, we can also backup music, movies and regular files. Amazon Cloud Drive can be accessed via the web on Mac, PC, and tablets. Just go to Amazon.com/clouddrive or Amazon.com/primephotos to get started.
As you can see in the picture above (click to enlarge if needed) we are currently storing 11,682 photos! This is everything we have over the last 22 years we have been married, through our 4 kids who are now 22, 16, 11 and 10, our grandchildren, pictures from every birthday and holiday. You may be thinking, “Wow 11,682 photos, I bet that is hard to manage”, but that is not the case at all.
As you can see in the picture above Amazon Cloud Drive has a layout that is very easy to use. I can view all of my photos, or view by album, I can view videos only, view items I have shared and there is a also a fun feature named “This Day” which lets me see photos that were taken on this day a year ago or this week a year ago. Since Amazon offers apps for all of our mobile devices, plus a desktop app it is so easy to save our memories and the more photos we add, the better the “This Day” feature gets. The easiest way to get started is using the Amazon Photo app, available on Android and iOS devices, automatically backs up your camera roll – freeing up valuable space on your device, so you can take more pictures and videos! In addition, the Amazon Photo app allows you to access your photos and personal videos on all of your devices. Photos and files can be shared via private links from within the Amazon Photo app or by selecting a folder or file to be shared using the web interface on your computer. If you are an Amazon Prime member, you already have access to Amazon Cloud Drive with Prime Photos, which provides unlimited photo storage as part of your Prime membership. In addition, Prime members get 5 GB of additional storage space for videos, movies, music, and files. Amazon recently announced two unlimited storage plans, both start with a free 3-month trial:
- Unlimited Everything Plan ($59.99 per year—equivalent of less than $5 per month): Store an infinite number of new and existing photos, videos, files, documents, movies, and music in Cloud Drive.
- Unlimited Photos Plan ($11.99 per year—equivalent of less than $1 per month): Similar to the Prime member benefit – non Prime members can also store an infinite number of photos in Cloud Drive without worrying about taking up space on phones, cameras, or other devices. This plan also includes 5 GB of additional storage for videos or other documents and files.
